A case has been filed against a Jahangirnagar University (JU) teacher for allegedly making derogatory remarks about a Jamaat-e-Islami leader from Sirajganj.

Prof Zahidul Islam Zahid, secretary of Sirajganj district unit of Jamaat and the party’s candidate for Sirajganj-2 constituency, filed the case against Dr. Nahrin Islam Khan, an assistant professor in JU’s Department of Environment, with Sirajganj Sadar Cognizance Court on Tuesday.

After reviewing the complaint, Judicial Magistrate KM Shahriar Shahid Bappi ordered further legal proceedings in the case.

According to the case statement, during a private television talk show on October 25, Dr. Nahrin allegedly stated that Jamaat leader Zahid “has rights over the wives of Awami League leaders who fled on August 5 last year.”

The remark quickly went viral on social media, sparking controversy.

The plaintiff said he submitted video footage and other evidence along with the case documents.
