Jahangirnagar University (JU) unit of Jatiya Chhatra Shakti held a sit-in protest on Sunday, condemning the ongoing genocide and ethnic cleansing in Sudan.
The demonstration took place at around 4:30 PM in front of the university’s Central Shaheed Minar.
During the protest, speakers highlighted that innocent civilians in Sudan are dying as victims of a power struggle between two rival military factions, compounded by global interests in the country’s mineral resources.
They accused world powers, including the United States and the United Arab Emirates, of directly and indirectly financing the massacre.
The protesters also criticized the silence of international media, the United Nations and human rights organizations, arguing that such inaction amounted to complicity in the crimes.
Farhana Farina, a member of the organization’s Anti-Sexual Harassment Cell, said, “The world is now trapped in selective politics. People only speak about issues that go viral. No one talks against the American aggression that destroys nations. The UN and human rights bodies are practicing selective politics under the guise of human rights. We urge them to end this hypocrisy and stand for justice.”
JU unit convener Arifuzzaman Uzzal added, “The silence of global and human rights organizations over Sudan’s situation is not only shameful but also a direct act of complicity in genocide. We demand an immediate end to the killings, the trial of RSF forces, and punishment for those funding the violence.”
The speakers also called on the Bangladeshi people to stand in solidarity with the freedom-loving people of Sudan and urged the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to take a clear stance against the genocide and issue an official condemnation.
