Golam Parwar calls for nat'l polls after Nov referendum

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General and former MP Mia Golam Parwar has urged that the July Charter implementation should be followed by a national referendum in November, leading to the next parliamentary elections in February.

He made the remarks on Friday while addressing a Hindu Conference held at Dumuria Independence Square in Khulna. 

The event was organized by Dumuria Upazila branch of Jamaat-e-Islami in honour of the local Hindu community. 

The conference was presided over by Dumuria Upazila Hindu Committee Secretary, Principal Deb Prasad Mondal and featured speeches from Advocate Abul Khair, Promot Gain, Dumuria Upazila Hindu Committee Vice President Dr. Haridas Mondal and several other local leaders and union representatives.

After the conference, a large procession moved through various streets of Dumuria sadar upazila.

In his speech, Mia Golam Parwar criticized past governments, claiming that those who ran the country since independence exploited the Hindu community for personal gains. 

He emphasized the need for an Islamic government to focus on the development and welfare of Hindus, as well as broader infrastructure improvements.

He also warned against threats to Hindus, asserting that the community would no longer be intimidated. 

He accused previous governments of using state institutions to oppress Hindus and said that if Jamaat-e-Islami were in power, it would eliminate extortion, land grabs and corruption.

“The people want change and Jamaat’s stand will bring that change. The message of reform seen in universities will be reflected in the upcoming national election, Inshallah”, he added.
