Former RAJUK member (Estate and Land) Mohammad Khurshid Alam, an accused in three corruption cases involving former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her family, surrendered before a Dhaka court on Wednesday.
He appeared before Dhaka Special Judge Court-5, presided over by Judge Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun, and sought bail.
Advocate Shahinur Islam represented him, while Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) prosecutor Sultan Mahmud opposed the petition.
After hearing both sides, the court rejected the bail plea and ordered Khurshid to be sent to jail.
Three witnesses also testified in connection with the cases the same day.
The ACC filed six separate cases in January, accusing Hasina and her family members of abusing power to secure government plots in RAJUK’s Purbachal New Town Project.
The accused include Hasina’s son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, daughter Saima Wazed Putul, sister Sheikh Rehana, and other relatives.
According to the charge sheets, the plots, each measuring 10 kathas in Sector 27 of Purbachal, were allegedly allocated in violation of eligibility criteria while Hasina was in office.
Courts have already framed charges in all six cases, and arrest warrants remain outstanding for several absconding defendants.
