Govt to recruit 13,500 asstt primary teachers

The Directorate of Primary Education (DPE) is set to recruit 13,500 assistant teachers for government primary schools across the country.

DPE Director General Abu Nur Md Shamsuzzaman announced on Monday that the recruitment notification is expected to be published by next November.

"Currently, 13,500 assistant teacher posts are vacant nationwide. We will issue the recruitment notification as soon as the teacher recruitment rules are approved. Hopefully, this will happen by next November," Shamsuzzaman told the media.

Addressing long-standing structural challenges in the primary education system, the DG said, "At present, 32,000 assistant teachers are working either in their current positions or as acting head teachers. This is undoubtedly very painful for them." He added that efforts are underway to resolve the issue through administrative reforms.

"We have already announced the 10th grade for head teachers, and work is progressing in that direction. The 10th grade will be implemented very soon," he said.

Shamsuzzaman further noted that the DPE has recommended upgrading assistant teachers to the 11th grade, which has already been discussed in the Pay Commission. "Even though the posts are vacant, promotions have been delayed due to a pending case. I hope the verdict will be passed very soon. As a result, we will be able to fill these 32,000 head teacher posts. At the same time, the assistant teacher posts will open up, allowing us to recruit new teachers for 32,000 positions again," he explained.
