Observer Online Report
Abul Kalam Azad, who was killed after a bearing pad fell from a metro rail pillar in Dhaka’s Farmgate area, was laid to rest at his ancestral home in Shariatpur district on Monday morning.

His body reached his home at Moktarer Char area of Purbo Poragachha village under Naria upazila earlier in the day, where a namaz-e-janaza was held at Dakhil Madrasha premises, attended by hundreds of mourners. A deep sense of grief and disbelief gripped the community following his tragic and untimely death.

Locals remembered Abul Kalam as a kind, hardworking man who had endured hardships from a young age. Orphaned about 20 years ago, he was raised by his siblings. Seeking a better life, he moved to Malaysia in 2012 and returned home in 2018, later marrying Irene Akter Priya from a nearby village.

He lived in  Narayanganj's Pathantuli, with his wife and two young children — Abdullah, 3, and Fariha, 2, — and worked at a travel agency in Motijheel.

On Sunday around 12:15 PM, while passing through Farmgate, a bearing pad from an overhead metro rail structure suddenly fell, fatally striking him on the head. He died on the spot.

Md Imrul Hasan, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) of Shariatpur, said the local administration would extend all necessary assistance to the bereaved family.
