Advisers not above justice, they must be accountable: Oli Ahmed

Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) President Col. (retd.) Oli Ahmed said on Sunday that if the interim government's advisers think they are above the law, they are wrong, if any adviser is involved in corruption, he will also face trial.

He said this at a discussion meeting marking the 20th founding anniversary of the LDP. The event was held at the Engineers Institution Bangladesh (IEB) auditorium in Ramna on Sunday.

Oli Ahmed said that BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, and Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) have recently accused some government advisers of supporting a certain political party. He said no political party has publicly objected to any adviser, but some advisers seem uncomfortable with these allegations.

He repeated that advisers are not above justice and will also be held accountable. He also said that the interim government is formed with people from NGOs who are not qualified to run a government.

Oli Ahmed said that the Awami League came to power because of corruption and the lack of foresight among politicians. He claimed that Sheikh Hasina formed the government with the help of India's intelligence agency RAW and the Indian government. He said politicians must understand future consequences; otherwise, they only focus on making money.

Criticizing Sheikh Hasina, Oli Ahmed said she lost the trust of the people and is now protected by India. He questioned how India could be considered a friend while ordinary Bangladeshis are suffering and the country lacks rule of law and justice.

Oli Ahmed also urged West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to send back any Bangladeshi politicians who escaped there.

He warned of conspiracies regarding the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT). He told the Army Chief to protect the area at all costs and not listen to demands from Santu Larma.

Oli Ahmed claimed that money is coming from different countries to destabilize Bangladesh. He said Awami League businessmen and leaders who looted money are living abroad and sending money to Sheikh Hasina. He said he has information to support this claim.

LDP Secretary General Redwan Ahmed, speaking as the president of the event, said that Bangladesh became independent only once in 1971. He said people should not be misled by calling July and August a "second independence."

Calling for a fair election, Oli Ahmed said that people want to vote and choose their leaders.
