Morshed Hossain Azad, General Manager (Finance) of the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC), is facing legal action in the High Court over allegations of age fraud and submission of fake experience certificates to secure his job.
The case has been brought by Advocate Mohammad Ahsan on behalf of Muhammad Ziaul Haque, convener of Students for Sovereignty, a platform affiliated with Dhaka University. A writ petition on the matter has already been filed.
According to the petition, when BPC advertised the post of Deputy Manager (Marketing) on March 13, 2009, Morshed Hossain Azad was 36 years and 4 months old-exceeding the maximum age limit of 35 years. He also allegedly submitted a fake experience certificate from an entity named Glowar Trading, which was later flagged during an audit. Despite this finding, no investigation was reportedly carried out.
The petition further claims that, as a powerful leader of the ruling party's student wing, Morshed Azad used his influence to manipulate the recruitment process and was later implicated in multiple corruption allegations. A previous complaint was filed with the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on December 5, 2021, by AKM Jahid, then Manager of Jamuna Oil Company's Mongla Installation, detailing allegations of corruption against Azad. However, the case was allegedly not investigated properly.
The legal notice issued earlier demanded action against Morshed Hossain Azad for fraud, corruption, and irregular recruitment, including his termination from service, within seven days. After no response came within the stipulated period, the writ petition was filed in the High Court today.
Legal experts said the court's intervention could pave the way for a proper investigation and accountability if the allegations are proven true.
