Nine shops were gutted in a devastating fire at Zamindar Hat in Ramgati Upazila of Laxmipur district on Saturday.

According to eyewitnesses, the fire originated from the tea shop of Mohammad Arif and spread to nearby shops.

Upon receiving the information, fire service personnel reached the spot and managed to bring the fire under control after a two-hour effort with the help of locals.

The damaged shops include a wholesale electrical goods shop, a pharmacy, a CNG mechanic shop, a salon shop and a tea shop.

“The investigation is underway for finding out the cause of the fire,” said Ramgati Fire Service Inspector Md. Zakir Hossain.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Syed Amjad Hossain said that the project officer has already been asked to prepare a list of businessmen and house owners affected by the fire. “Financial assistance will be given if allocation is received according to the list,” he added.
