Teenage girl 'commits' suicide in Pirojpur

PIROJPUR, Oct 23: A teenage madrasa student allegedly committed suicide in Indurkani Upazila of the district on Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Jannati Akter, 17, daughter of Abu Taleb Hawlader from Ramchandrapur Village in Parttashi Union of the upazila. She was a first-year Alim student at the Tagra Darul Islam Kamil Madrasa.

According to local sources and the Indurkhani Police Station, the incident occurred after the victim's parents advised her not to spend excessive time talking on her mobile phone. It is reported that Jannati became emotionally distressed over the matter and subsequently took her own life.
The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Indurkani Police Station Md. Maruf Hossain confirmed the incident, stating that a "family dispute over mobile phone use led the minor to take this extreme step."

The body has been sent to the district hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination.
