Schoolgirl commits suicide in Gaibandha

A schoolgirl committed suicide by hanging herself from ceiling fan at Sadullapur upazila in Gaibandha district on Saturday morning.

The deceased was identified as Gourabi Rani, 16, daughter of Gouranga Chandra, a resident of Dashlia village under Naldanga union in the upazila. Gourabi was a Class X student of Naldanga No. 2 Girls’ High School.

According to locals, the incident occurred at around 10 AM when her mother was not at home.
Confirming the incident, Naldanga Union Parishad (UP) member Ful Mia said that Gourabi hanged herself from a ceiling fan using a scarf.

Sadullapur Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Tajuddin Khondaker said that a team of police has been sent to the spot and reasons behind the suicide could not be known immediately.
