Election Commissioner Anwarul Islam Sarkar has assured that all necessary measures will be taken to ensure the safety of voters in the remote haor regions during the upcoming national parliamentary elections.
Speaking to reporters after visiting the Janata High School polling centre in Tahirpur upazila of Sunamganj on Friday afternoon, the commissioner said the Election Commission (EC) was inspecting the area's overall security, infrastructure, and communication systems ahead of the polls.
"We are here to assess the security arrangements, roads, infrastructure, and transport facilities in the haor areas," he said. "The Election Commission will ensure that there are enough vehicles, presiding officers, and logistical allocations for these hard-to-reach centres. Voters will be provided with maximum security."
Addressing past complaints about irregularities, he said, "Many people have alleged that they couldn't vote properly before. This time, we want to change that history. Each polling centre will be under strict monitoring to ensure a peaceful and impartial voting environment."
On the participation of vulnerable groups, the commissioner added, "There will be separate booths and female security personnel for women voters. Elderly and differently-abled voters will be allowed to vote with assistance so that no one is deprived of their right to vote."
