Sylhet Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md. Sarwar Alam has announced that from October 24, passengers will be required to present their own National ID (NID) when traveling by train. Using someone else’s NID for travel will no longer be allowed.

The decision aims to enhance passenger safety, ensure transparency in ticketing, and curb black-market activities. DC Sarwar Alam made the announcement following an urgent meeting on Thursday (October 16) focused on improving the district’s transportation system.

He also stated that footpaths in Sylhet city will be cleared of hawkers after an October 18 deadline, with designated spaces at Laldighi Par provided for them. Authorities will ensure fair fares on the Dhaka-Sylhet route, sufficient train services, and accelerated road repairs to guarantee safe and convenient travel for passengers.

The meeting was attended by Sylhet Divisional Commissioner Khan Md. Reza-un-Nabi, officials from road, rail, and aviation sectors, and political party representatives.
