Shibir-backed candidate leads VP race in 8 halls

In the Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union (RUCSU) elections, Shibir-backed candidates are leading the Vice President (VP) race by more than double the votes of their nearest rivals in eight halls, while an independent candidate is ahead in the General Secretary (GS) race. The data comes from the results of Rokeya, Munnujan, Taposhi Rabeya, Khaleda Zia, Rahmatunnesa, July 36, Sher-e-Bangla Fazlul Haq, and Shah Makhdum halls, released late Thursday night (October 16).

According to the announced figures, Shibir-supported Mostakur Rahman Zahid received 5,478 votes in the VP race, while his nearest competitor, Sheikh Nur Uddin Abir of the BNP-backed panel, secured 1,476 votes.

In the GS race, independent candidate Salauddin Ammar leads with 4,775 votes, followed by Shibir-backed Fazle Rabbi Fahim Reza with 2,781 votes.

For the Assistant General Secretary (AGS) post, Shibir-backed Salman Sabbir is leading with 2,964 votes, while BNP-backed candidate Jahin Biswas Esha received 2,287 votes.

Voting for the RUCSU election began at 9 a.m. and concluded at 4 p.m., after which the central counting of results from 17 polling centers at Kazi Nazrul Islam Auditorium started at 5 p.m.
This year, the total number of registered voters was 28,901, with polling conducted across 17 centers in 9 academic buildings. A total of 305 candidates contested 23 central RUCSU positions, including VP, GS, and other key posts. For the Senate student representative seats, 58 candidates competed for five positions. Meanwhile, 555 candidates contested 255 posts in the 17 hall councils. Of the total voters, 39.10% are female and 60.90% are male.
