Teachers hail govt for establishing separate DSE

The Bangladesh Government Secondary Teachers Association (BGSSA) praised the interim government for establishing an independent Directorate of Secondary Education (DSE) calling it a milestone in educational reform.

In a statement on Wednesday, BGSSA Chief Coordinator Rebecca Sultana and Coordinator Abdus Salam said, "The creation of an independent Directorate of Secondary Education is an important step toward fulfilling the long-standing expectations of teachers, students, and guardians. This timely and far-sighted initiative will strengthen the administrative structure and improve the quality of education."

They expressed optimism that the remaining implementation work would be completed soon and extended gratitude to the Ministry of Education and all concerned policymakers for realizing this reform. "We are committed to working jointly to ensure fair and effective education administration from primary to higher levels," the statement added.

The association recalled that the proposal for separate directorates originated in the Education Commission Report of 2003 led by Professor Moniruzzaman Miah and was later reflected in the National Education Policy 2010. Subsequent studies, including one by the Beam Foundation Research and Consultancy Service Center, also recommended splitting the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education to ensure efficiency.
