The government has once again extended the tenure of National Consensus Commission (NCC), allowing the body to continue its work until October 31, 2025.
A notification confirming the extension was issued on Thursday, signed by Cabinet Secretary Dr. Sheikh Abdur Rashid.
This marks the second extension since the commission was formed.
The NCC, a seven-member body, was established on February 12, 2025, under SRO No-55-Law/2025 and officially began work on February 15.
Its original mandate was due to end on September 15, but the government extended it by one month in mid-September before granting this further extension.
The commission is led by Professor Ali Riaz, who serves as its vice-chairman. It includes prominent figures such as Abdul Muyeed Chowdhury, Safar Raj Hossain, Badiul Alam Majumdar, Justice Md Emdadul Haque and Iftekharuzzaman, each of whom chairs one of the six sectoral reform commissions; covering public administration, police, elections, judiciary and anti-corruption.
Tasked with consolidating and refining recommendations from these six reform commissions, NCC has been actively engaging with political parties, civil society representatives and other stakeholders.
Its goal is to facilitate a national consensus around institutional reforms necessary for restoring public trust and ensuring accountability in governance, law enforcement, the judiciary, electoral processes and anti-corruption mechanisms.
