Three girls died after drowning while bathing in a pond at Chunarughat upazila in Habiganj district on Tuesday afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Samia Akter, 15, daughter of Sajid Ali; Muskan, 13, daughter of Selim Mia and Sania, 12, daughter of Sajid Mia, residents of Ramganga area under the Chandpur tea garden in the upazila.
According to locals, the trio went to a neighbouring pond to bath during a wedding ceremony in the same tea garden and drowned while bathing.
Later, locals discovered them floating on the pond and immediately rushed them to Chunarughat Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctors declared them dead.
Chunarughat Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Md Zahidul Islam confirmed the incident.
