The government is once again amending the Cyber Security Ordinance, introducing a provision that effectively cancels all pending cases under the Digital Security Act that had already been dismissed.

As a result, individuals who were convicted or accused under the law will be released from liability, and ongoing investigations will be nullified.

Law Adviser Professor Dr. Asif Nazrul shared the update on his verified Facebook page on Friday afternoon.
In his post, the legal advisor stated, “At yesterday’s Advisory Council meeting, it was decided to cancel all cases (speech offenses) filed under the 2018 Digital Security Act. Consequently, all convicted or accused persons under this law will be freed from liability.”

The Advisory Council meeting, chaired by Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, was held on Thursday at the Chief Adviser’s office in Tejgaon, Dhaka. During the meeting, the proposal to amend Section 50 of the Cyber Security Ordinance, 2025 was approved.

A total of 11 ordinances and three proposals were approved during the session chaired by the chief adviser.
