After wrapping up their South American World Cup qualifiers last month, Brazil have already secured their spot at 2026 FIFA World Cup. Now, the five-time world champions are shifting their focus to tournament preparations, starting with an international friendly against hosts South Korea on Friday in Seoul.
The match kicks off at 5:00 PM Bangladesh time.
This Asian tour is a key part of Brazil’s pre-World Cup build-up. Although coach Carlo Ancelotti has officially taken over the national team and guided them through qualification, he is yet to settle on a consistent starting XI.
So far, the Italian has rotated players heavily, experimenting with different formations; but without much stability or convincing results.
Brazil head into the match following a disappointing 1-0 loss to Bolivia in their last outing. To make matters more challenging, they are missing key players like Raphinha, Marquinhos and Alisson Becker due to injuries.
However, there is good news in the attack, as Real Madrid stars Vinícius Jr. and Rodrygo return to the squad. Matheus Cunha, who missed the previous match, is also back and ready to contribute.
Coach Ancelotti has promised to play attacking football against South Korea.
He plans to deploy a 4-2-4 formation, with two holding midfielders and a strong four-man frontline.
Defender Eder Militao is expected to return to the national team after a long absence, partnering with Gabriel Magalhaes at the heart of the defense.
In attack, Vinícius Jr. and Cunha are likely starters. Rodrygo’s starting spot is still uncertain, but rising star Estevao could get a chance on the right wing.
Joao Pedro may lead the line as the main striker, with Cunha playing just behind him in the playmaker role. Casemiro and Bruno Guimaraes are expected to control the midfield.
Brazil's probable starting XI:
Bento (GK); Vanderson, Militao, Gabriel Magalhaes, Douglas Santos, Casemiro, Bruno Guimaraes; Matheus Cunha, Vinícius Jr., Estevao, Joao Pedro.
