Miscreants slit the throats of a woman and her college-going daughter at Ramganj upazila in Laxmipur and looted gold ornaments on Thursday.
The incident occurred around 9 PM at Pashchim Sreerampur village under the upazila's Chandipur union.
The victims are Julekha Begum, 55, and her daughter, college student Tanha Akter Mim, 19. Julekha was the wife of Mizanur Rahman, a crockery businessman at Sonapur Bazar in Ramganj, and Mim was their daughter, an HSC second-year student at Ramganj Model College.
The victims' family alleged that approximately 30 bhoris of gold jewelry kept in the house were stolen by the perpetrators during the attack. The mother and daughter were alone at home during the incident.
According to police and local residents, Mizanur Ragman is a businessman at Sonapur Bazar. All the male members of the household were at the market. Taking advantage of the fact that only Mizanur's wife and daughter were at home, miscreants entered the house and slit the throats of the mother and daughter. They then fled with approximately 30 bhoris of gold and other valuables. Family members returned home from the market around 10 PM and found the bodies lying on the floor in a pool of blood.
Ramganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Bari said he visited the scene, noting that the killers took gold jewelry and other valuable items. Legal steps are underway in this regard.
