Five individuals were arrested for illegally printing a large number of National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB)-approved textbooks in Old Dhaka.
Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a raid in Dalpotti area and seized Bangla, English and Sohopath books for the 2025-26 session of classes eleven and twelve from Ashraf Bookbinding.
Following the incident, the bookbinding factory’s owner, Nazmul, was arrested.
After initial interrogation, Nazmul admitted that two individuals named Biplob and Samrat were involved in the illegal printing operation, and efforts are underway to arrest them.
Law enforcers also detained four others from Mim Press in the Patuatuli area on the same charges, while the press owner, Abdur Razzak, managed to flee.
Confirming the incident, Sutrapur Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Saiful Islam said that the process of filing a case against the arrested is underway.
Meanwhile, NCTB Editor Md Saidur Rahman said, “The books were being printed and bound illegally at these factories. We will take further action in accordance with the law.”
