Jamaat-e-Islami, Islami Andolan Bangladesh, and five other Islamic parties are set to hold nationwide protest rallies on Friday, demanding elections under the proportional representation (PR) system and pressing four additional demands.
The rallies will take place across Dhaka and all divisional cities as part of the second phase of the ongoing joint movement by seven Islamic parties.
In a statement on Wednesday, Jamaat-e-Islami said that following Friday prayers, protest marches will be held in Dhaka and other divisional cities, with memorandums to be submitted to district administrations on October 12.
Similarly, Islami Andolan Bangladesh announced that Friday’s protests would demand elections under the PR system based on the July Charter, justice for genocide, a level playing field for all political actors, and accountability for collaborators of fascism. The rallies will cover Dhaka North, Dhaka South, and all divisional cities nationwide.
The joint movement, launched on September 30, spans October 1–12, with Jamaat-e-Islami having carried out a three-day program earlier in the first phase.
The five key demands of the seven Islamic parties are holding national elections in February based on the July Charter, implementing the PR system in both parliamentary houses in the next elections, ensuring a level playing field to guarantee free, fair, and credible elections, delivering visible justice for all atrocities, genocide, and corruption under the fascist government, and banning the activities of the Jatiya Party and the 14-party alliance, identified as collaborators of dictatorship.
