Bangladesh head coach Javier Cabrera has made bold selection decisions ahead of home match against Hong Kong in AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers, leaving out Shamit Shome and long-time captain Jamal Bhuiyan from starting XI.
Shamit, who previously represented Canada at youth level, arrived in Dhaka late Tuesday and only participated in one training session on Wednesday.
Despite high expectations, Cabrera opted not to include him in starting lineup.
In a surprise move, Jamal Bhuiyan has also been benched once again, continuing his absence from starting eleven as seen in Bangladesh's previous Asian Cup qualifier matches.
In his absence, midfielder Md Sohel Rana will captain the team, being the most senior player in starting XI.
As expected, Mitul Marma retains his position as the starting goalkeeper. Veteran defender Tapu Barman, although named in 23-man squad, is unavailable due to injury.
In his place, Shakil Ahad Tapu will partner with Tariq Kazi at heart of the defense.
Brothers Taj Uddin and Sad Uddin will feature as the full-backs on either side.
US-based youngster Zayan Ahmed, who impressed with the U-23 team and performed well in training, has not been included in the starting XI.
Cabrera has instead relied on the experience of Sad Uddin.
In midfield, English Premier League player Hamza Dewan Choudhury will marshal the centre alongside captain Sohel Rana.
Faisal Ahmed Fahim and Sohel Rana are expected to operate from the wings, as Bangladesh return to a 4-4-2 formation.
Up front, Rakib Hossain and Sheikh Morsalin have been tasked with leading the attack.
Cabrera has made five changes from starting XI that faced Singapore on June 10.
Missing from the lineup are Tapu Barman, Shamit Shome, Kazem, Fahmidul and Hridoy.
Bangladesh starting XI:Mitul Marma (GK), Tariq Kazi, Shakil Ahad Tapu, Sad Uddin, Taj Uddin, Hamza Choudhury, Md Sohel Rana (C), Sohel Rana, Faisal Ahmed Fahim, Sheikh Morsalin, Rakib Hossain.
