NAOGAON, Oct 7: Sarjis Alam, Chief Organiser of National Citizen Party (NCP) in northern Bangladesh, has warned that there is no 'safe exit' for people except through death, criticizing certain Advisers for their alleged irresponsible conduct.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday after a district and upazila coordination meeting at Naogaon Sadar Upazila Parishad hall, Sarjis said some leaders aim to evade accountability by using elections as a means of escape, whether inside or outside the country.

"They are standing on the blood of martyrs. If they fear for their lives now, they should never have taken responsibility. No leniency will be shown to those who shirk duty," Sarjis added.

On the electoral front, Sarjis confirmed that NCP would contest upcoming elections under its Shapla symbol, as the Election Commission has reportedly responded positively regarding the party's choice. He noted that discussions are ongoing on whether NCP will run independently or form alliances with other parties.

"If multiple parties align on the same path, working for national and public interest, cooperation may be possible. But no final decision has been taken yet," he said.

Sarjis also criticized attempts to recreate versions of the Awami League, calling key leaders beneficiaries of a 'fascist structure,' and welcomed initiatives by patriotic citizens to form new political groups.

Expressing solidarity with BNP leader Tarique Rahman, Alam highlighted injustices faced by political activists, including harassment, imprisonment and property destruction, and urged for strict action against local Awami League operatives responsible for past abuses.
