A youth died after committing suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling at his home in the capital’s Bangshal area on Monday night.
The deceased was identified as Md Ashfaq Hossain Lam, 15, a resident of the area and a Class X student at Nabakumari School and College.
According to the victim’s elder brother Alif, they noticed Ashfaq’s room was locked from the inside, broke open the door and found him hanging from the ceiling fan.
Later, family rushed Ashfaq to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the on-duty doctors declared him dead on arrival.
“We have no idea why he took his own life,” Alif added.
Bangsal Police Station sub-inspector (SI) Sajal Roy confirmed the incident and said that the body was sent to Dhaka Medical College morgue for an autopsy.
The police also added that they are investigating the incident to determine the reasons behind the suicide and whether any other factors were involved.
