BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has called on all political parties to move beyond confrontation and embrace a politics centered on public welfare, unity, and service to the people.
“There have been enough movements, enough rallies, enough sacrifices. It is time to set aside conflict and come together for the greater good,” Tarique said on Monday during a virtual conversation with Motaleb Akon, a veteran BNP leader from Pirojpur.
Acknowledging differences in ideology among political parties as “natural in a democracy,” Tarique stressed that politics should now focus on solving the country’s pressing social and economic challenges.
“Let us compete not in hostility, but in ideas — in how well we can reduce people’s suffering and improve their lives,” he said. “This should be the politics of our future — politics for the people of Bangladesh.”
Tarique urged all parties to adopt policies that ensure welfare, create opportunities, and uplift the nation’s youth. “We are preparing plans so that every young man and woman can earn an honest living and live with dignity,” he added.
Referring to Motaleb Akon — who was left wheelchair-bound after a political attack — Tarique said Bangladesh must build a future where “no citizen suffers violence for their beliefs.”
He also reiterated that the BNP’s strength lies in the trust of the people, noting that “whenever Bangladeshis have been allowed to vote freely, they have chosen BNP.”
Reflecting on the sacrifices of BNP and other pro-democracy activists over the years, Tarique said the party is now prioritising initiatives to expand employment, strengthen healthcare, and empower farmers and women, particularly in rural areas.
“The time has come to turn struggle into service,” he concluded, urging his supporters to dedicate themselves to the welfare of ordinary citizens.
