The Islami Bank Shareholders Forum held human chain in front of Islami Bank Tower in Dilkusha, in the city on Sunday and Monday (October 5 and 6, 2025) demanding removal of officers and employees illegally appointed by S Alam by Thursday next.
They were instrumental to capturing the bank and money laundering by S Alam Group from Islami Bank, protesters claimed demanding their removal.
At the same time, Islami Bank Customers Forum held a similar human chain in front of every branch of Islami Bank across the country calling for immediate dismissal of officers and employees illegally appointed by S Alam in the bank.
Speakers at the rally called for their removal as soon as possible to restore discipline in the bank. Shareholders and customers said if these illegal officers are not removed by next Thursday, they will start a larger movement.
Mohtashim Billah, Hafizur Rahman, Imam Hossain, Mahmudul Hasan, ATM Sirajul Haque, Dr. Harunur Rashid, Mustafizur Rahman and Ratan, among others, spoke at the rally in front of the bank's head office.
At that time, Islamic Bank Customer Forum, Conscious Businessmen Forum, Islamic Bank's Former Bankers Council and Anti-Discrimination Job Aspirants Council, Conscious Professionals Group, Islamic Bank CBA and Conscious Bankers Society joined the human chain voicing similar demands.
10,000 people were appointed from the top to the lower level of Islamic Bank by verbal orders without any recruitment examination or verification of their certificates for ten years. Of these, 4,500 employees come from S Alam's own upazila Patiya. The bank's workforce increased by this irregular appointment to 22,000 from 13,500 in 2017.
Islasmi Bank management called 5,385 employees to participate in an evaluation test amid the demand to exclude those appointed by verbal orders. But only 414 people participated in the evaluation test. Islami Bank has dismissed 400 people for breach of discipline and non-compliance with the code of conduct and released the rest from their responsibilities.
The speakers at the rally said S Alam used the state machinery to forcibly take over the bank. He expelled the legitimate owners of the bank by threatening them including the foreign shareholders.
Speakers said Islami Bank has kept these officials in service for so long on pressure and lost over Tk 7,500 crore every year for five years to keep them. They said there is no other legal way to keep illegal recruitment in jobs.
