'Will be there with people during the expected election, InShaAllah'

''I will try my best to be in people, among people when the expected polls take place, InShaAllah'' said BNP's acting chairman Tarique Rahman during a interview with BBC Bangla, first interview in nearly two decades.

He said that as a politician and a worker of a political party, he has always been closely connected with elections. When an expected election will take place as a politician. "So, when an expected election, people's expected polls takes place, how can I stay away from it?"

"I will be in Bangladesh during the upcoming national election. I will try my best, I will have the wish, I will have the interest that when the expected election, the election that people want, takes place, I will be there with the people, among the people."

When asked about his delay to return to the country is security purpose, Tarique Rahman replied, ''For some reasonable reasons maybe my return has been delayed.''

''I have been living abroad for 17 years. But when I got the responsibility of the party, I have been speaking to the party leaders, activists and ordinary people in villages and towns."
"You know that the past fascist government stopped my right to speak through an court order. ''If I wanted to say something to the media, maybe the media wanted to publish it, but they could not," Tarique added.

He further said, ''I once spoke at the Press Club. The next day, I saw that the then members or committee of the Press Club held a meeting and decided that, since I was legally considered a fugitive, such a person would not be allowed to speak at the Press Club. In this way, they tried to silence me.''
