5-day training on chemical incident preparedness begins in city

A five-day international training programme on "Chemical Incident Preparedness for Hospitals (HOSPREP)" began in the capital on Sunday The training is being organized by the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) and the Bangladesh National Authority for Chemical Weapons Convention (BNACWC).

The inaugural session of the programme was held at Golden Tulip, the Grandmark Dhaka, said an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) press release.
Major General Quazi Md Rashid-Un-Nabi, Director General, Directorate General of Medical Service (DGMS), Dhaka Cantonment, was present as the chief guest.

A total of 18 participants from 10 countries including Bangladesh and six instructors both from OPCW and Bangladesh, senior dignitaries from armed forces were also present at the opening ceremony.

The aim of the training was to initiate the nationwide comprehensive capacity building effort in hospitals for dealing with chemical victims.

The training is focused on hospital emergency planning, chemical victim decontamination procedures and clinical management as well as on the prevention of secondary contamination of medical personnel.

Related subject matter experts from home and abroad including instructors from the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) and Specialist Physicians from different Medical Institutions of Bangladesh are involved in conducting the training.
