Afghanistan set a modest target of 144 runs after losing nine wickets in the dead rubber match of the series against Bangladesh at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in the UAE on Sunday.
Despite the series having already been decided, the match saw a spirited bowling effort from Bangladesh that restricted the Afghan side to a chaseable score.
Afghanistan's innings was marked by a lack of substantial partnerships and regular wickets falling to the Bangladeshi bowlers.
The top order failed to fire, with opener Ibrahim Zadran, 7, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, 12 and Wafiullah Tarakhil, 11 departing cheaply for 39-3 in the powerplay.
Sediqullah Atal was the top scorer among the main batsmen, contributing 28 runs, before slicing a wide delivery from Mohammad Saifuddin on 73-4.
The middle order crumbled swiftly, with Azmatullah Omarzai, 3 and veteran Mohammad Nabi, 1, both falling quickly to Rishad Hossain and Nasum Ahmed, respectively, leaving Afghanistan reeling at 82-6.
Captain Rashid Khan tried to inject some momentum but was caught by Nasum off Tanzim Hasan Sakib for 12 at 98-7, which was followed immediately by the dismissal of Abdollah Ahmadzai for a golden duck, giving Sakib two wickets in two balls.
Darwish Rasooli anchored the middle overs with 32 runs off 29 balls before being dismissed late in the innings by Saifuddin 132-9.
A late recovery effort was mounted by Mujeeb Ur Rahman, who scored an unbeaten 23 runs off 18 balls alongside Bashir Ahmad’s unbeaten 2, pushing the final total to 143-9.
Bangladesh now requires 144 runs to win the match.
