Jamalpur District Sports Association councillor and a candidate for the Dhaka Division director post in the upcoming Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) election, Abdullah Al Fuad Redwan, announced his withdrawal on Sunday alleging serious irregularities.
Although the deadline for official withdrawal passed last Wednesday, Redwan’s name will still appear on the ballot.
Speaking to reporters outside the BCB headquarters, Redwan said, “At least during the midnight vote, they stuffed ballot boxes openly. These people, however, are doing it so cunningly that it has even outdone that midnight ballot box scandal.”
With Redwan’s withdrawal, BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul and Cricket Operations Committee Chairman Nazmul Abedeen Fahim have been elected unopposed from the Dhaka Division.
Redwan also accused the election authorities of manipulating the e-ballot system. “I tried several times to meet the Election Commission, but they refused. I wanted to request that e-ballot and postal votes be limited to those who are abroad or hospitalized. But why are people living here, moving around normally, allowed to cast e-ballot votes?” he questioned.
