A youth died after committing suicide by consuming poison at Nalitabari upazila in Sherpur district.
The deceased was identified as Amirul Islam, 25, son of Abdur Rahman of Beltail village in the upazila. Amirul had been suffering from mental illness for a long time.
According to family sources, Amirul left home in the afternoon on Friday and returned in the evening, after which he started vomiting.
Later, suspecting that Amirul had consumed poison, family members rushed him to Nalitabari Upazila Health Complex but he died on the way to the hospital.
Nalitabari Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Md Sohel Rana confirmed the incident on Saturday and said that it is suspected to be a case of suicide.
Legal actions are being taken regarding the incident, added the OC.
