Expired saline used in Laxmipur hospital, probe launched

Panic spread among patients and their families at Raipur Upazila Health Complex in Laxmipur district after it was discovered that expired saline had been administered to a patient. 

The incident, which occurred late on Monday night, has sparked outrage and raised serious concerns about medical negligence at government hospital.

According to hospital sources, the issue surfaced when a patient developed noticeable swelling in the throat after completing a saline drip. 

Concerned relatives checked the saline bottle and were shocked to find that it had expired long ago. 

Their immediate protest drew attention from other patients, leading to heightened fear and confusion across the ward.

Multiple patients expressed their anxiety over the situation. "We come here seeking treatment, but if expired medicine is used, where can we turn? This puts our lives at greater risk," said one patient in distress.

Another family member, Nasrin Akhter, condemned the incident, calling it "inhumane" and demanded strict action against those responsible. "We want accountability. Such carelessness is unacceptable," she said.

Abdul Kader, a patient admitted at the hospital, echoed similar sentiments. "We are poor people. We can't afford private clinics. If this happens even at government hospitals, where will we get proper treatment?" he asked.

In response to the uproar, hospital authorities stated that Resident Medical Officer (RMO) had been instructed to look into the matter immediately. 

They assured that an investigation is underway and that appropriate action will be taken against anyone found responsible.

Upon hearing the news, Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Baharul Alam rushed to the hospital to calm the situation. 

"This is truly unfortunate. A probe committee will be formed to investigate the incident thoroughly. If anyone is found negligent, they will face strict consequences. Ensuring patient safety is our top priority," Dr. Alam stated.

Authorities have pledged to take all necessary measures to prevent such incidents in the future and to restore public trust in healthcare system.
