A Dhaka court has ordered the freezing of 114 bank accounts belonging to Taufika Karim, former personal secretary to jailed ex-Law Minister Anisul Huq, over allegations of massive corruption.

Senior Special Judge Sabbir Faiz of the Dhaka Metropolitan Court issued the order on Monday after a petition from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

According to the ACC, the accounts currently hold about Tk 86.98 crore, while illicit transactions worth Tk 653.36 crore have been routed through them. Investigators allege that Taufika amassed the funds through bail trading, recruitment deals, and lobbying for transfers.

The money was allegedly used to buy flats, luxury cars, and overseas properties.

The court said freezing the accounts was necessary to stop further transfer of illegal assets.
