Trade activities between Bangladesh and India at Benapole and Sonamasjid land ports will be temporarily suspended in observance of the Hindu community’s largest religious festival, Durga Puja.
Benapole Port Director Shamim Hossain said the suspension at Benapole will last from September 28 until October 2, with export and import operations resuming on October 4. However, internal activities at the Benapole Customs House and port will continue, allowing goods clearance and the return of Indian trucks.
At Sonamasjid Land Port, Ruhul Amin, general secretary of the port’s C&F Agents Association, noted that trade will remain halted until October 3 due to Durga Puja, a government holiday, and the weekly holiday.
Despite the suspension of trade, immigrants holding valid documents will still be permitted to cross the border during the holiday period.
