Clashes erupt between BNP, Jamaat activists in Ctg

Two groups of BNP and Jamaat activists locked into a clash in Chattogram's Bashkhali upazila leaving several people injured.

The incident took place at around 9.30 PM at Chambal Bazar under the upazila.

The skirmish broke out, when BNP supporters staged a demonstration in the market and Jamaat activists arrived at the spot, triggering chase and counter-chase.
Local sources said the conflict stemmed from a four-day-long dispute over releasing water from a sluice gate near the house of a local ward chairman. Earlier, both groups had engaged in multiple clashes.

Banshkhali Police Station inspector (investigation) Shudhangshu Shekhar Howlader confirmed the incident, saying law enforcers and army personnel were deployed to control the situation.

The area remains tense following the confrontation.
