Trading at Bangladesh’s stock markets began on a mixed note Tuesday, with the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) posting modest gains, while the Chattogram Stock Exchange (CSE) saw a decline during the first hour of trading.

On the third trading day of the week, DSE's benchmark index DSEX edged up by 5 points, indicating cautious optimism among investors. The Shariah-compliant DSES index also inched up by 1 point, while the DS30, which tracks blue-chip stocks, slipped by 1 point.

During the first hour, 214 issues were traded on the DSE. Of these, 91 declined, 84 remained unchanged, and 39 advanced. The turnover stood at over Tk 170 crore, reflecting moderate trading activity.

In contrast, CSE saw its overall index fall by 31 points, continuing a downward trend. Out of 103 issues traded on the CSE, 49 declined, 41 advanced, and 13 remained unchanged. Turnover at the CSE was over Tk 4 crore in the same period.

Market analysts say investors are taking a cautious approach amid a volatile economic outlook and ongoing concerns over corporate earnings and macroeconomic indicators.
