Members of the National Consumer Rights Protection Directorate (DNCRP) have seized huge number of sex stimulating drugs, cosmetics and infant formula and, later, fined Tamanna Pharmacy, Gulshan-1, Tk 1 lakh.
Meanwhile, the owner of the pharmacy was instructed to appear in person at their office and submit a written undertaking that he will refrain from such acts against consumer interests in future.
The consumer rights fined the money during a raid on Monday which was conducted by Bikash Chandra Das, Deputy Director of the Dhaka Divisional Office of the National Consumer Rights Protection Directorate (DNCRP) and Muhammad Hasanuzzaman, Assistant Director of Dhaka District.
It was found that Tamanna Pharmacy was selling approved sexual stimulants illegally imported from various countries, including Africa. There is no importer of these drugs. These drugs were secretly stored and sold in every drawers of the pharmacy. About 20 to 22 types of sexual stimulants were found in the raid. In addition, evidence was found of foreign cosmetics and infant's formula milk being illegally brought in and sold in luggage.
Tamanna Pharmacy was fined Tk one lakh taka under the Consumer Rights Act 2009.
As part of regular market surveillance, Barisal Pharmacy, Gulshan Pharma, and Tamanna Pharmacy were inspected in the capital's Gulshan 1 today, said Muhammad Hasanuzzaman.
Tamanna Pharmacy was fined Tk 1 lakh, Barishal Pharmacy was Tk 20,000 and Gulshan Pharma was fined Tk 20,000 for this crime, he added.
The official also warned that their licenses will be cancelled and legal action will be taken to close the shops permanently if the crime repeat.
