A 16-year-old SSC examinee died after falling from the rooftop of a building during a picnic in Jhalakathi town. Another student was critically injured in the incident.
The accident took place around 2:00 AM on Monday night (22 September) in Bashpatti area of Jhalakathi town.
The dead was Md. Shahariar Nafis, son of Md. Jalal Uddin Kiran, a migrant worker from Kushtia. As Nafis was studying at Jhalakathi Technical School and College, his family had rented a house in the town.
The injured has been admitted to Jhalakathi Sadar Hospital for treatment.
According to locals, a group of 15–16 friends had gathered for a rooftop picnic. During the event, two students accidentally fell off the roof. Nafis died on the spot, while Rifat was seriously injured.
Jhalakathi Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Moniruzzaman confirmed the incident, saying police recovered the body and sent it to morgue for an autopsy. A case has been filed with Jhalakathi Police Station, and an investigation is currently underway.
