A major fire at Binapota 132/33 KV power grid line in Satkhira has plunged the entire district into darkness since Saturday morning, following a transformer explosion that triggered widespread disruption.
According to the Fire Service, the blaze erupted around 11:10 AM when a transformer at the grid line exploded with a loud bang, igniting a fire that quickly spread.
Two firefighting units responded swiftly and managed to bring the fire under control within an hour.
Fortunately, no casualties have been reported.
Russel Islam, in-charge of Satkhira power grid, confirmed that the explosion caused a complete power outage across the district. Restoration efforts began immediately and electricity supply is expected to return to normal by Saturday evening.
Nurul Islam, a warehouse inspector at Satkhira Fire Service, said initial findings suggest that the fire was likely caused by overheating or an electrical short circuit in the transformer.
The power disruption has brought daily life to a standstill in the district, affecting businesses, mills, factories and essential services.
Residents and business owners alike have been grappling with the outage, as authorities race to restore normalcy.
