The 65th traditional boat race was held on the Chitra River at Mulghar Godara in Fakirhat, Bagerhat, on Wednesday (September 17), amid a festive atmosphere.
Thousands of spectators lined the riverbanks to watch the centuries-old rural festival. Men, women, and children cheered joyfully as the riverfront turned into a vibrant cultural hub, accompanied by a traditional village fair.
Organized by Kolkolia Tripalli Majhi Milan Sangha, the competition featured eight boats and ran from afternoon to evening. Visitors said they attend the event every year with their families and expressed delight at the spectacle.
Committee president Narendra Nath Majumder, general secretary Piyush Sarkar, and Mahadev Biswas said the race, arranged annually to mark Vishwakarma Puja, has become a cultural highlight for locals.
BNP leader Md Ifthekharul Ahmed Palash, Morol Kamruzzaman, Md Masudur Rahman, Khan Arifuzzaman Pintu, Subrata Goldar, and Nirupam Majumder were also present. At the end of the event, prizes were distributed among the winners.
