
PIROJPUR, Sept 17: Preparations are underway in a festive mood for Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Hindu community, at 456 mandaps across seven upazilas of the district.
According to the Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad, Pirojpur District Unit General Secretary Dola Rani Guha, this year puja will be held at 58 mandaps in Pirojpur Sadar, 126 in Nazirpur, 101 in Nesarabad, 25 in Kawkhali, 48 in Bhandaria, 23 in Indurkani, and 75 in Mathbaria.
As in previous years, the government has allocated 228 tons of rice - half a ton (500 kg) per mandap - to support smooth celebration of the festival.
District administration sources said necessary measures have been taken to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply and maintain security. Ansar and police personnel will be deployed at every mandap, while the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) will act as a striking force.
