Joint forces arrested a listed accused and drug peddler along with several of his associates from East Madarbari area in Chattogram district early Monday.
The arrested is Jahangir Maji, a listed fugitive terrorist and drug peddler.
Acting on a tip-off, joint forces officials conducted a drive at around 12:30 AM and arrested Jahangir Maji and his accomplices.
Joint forces recovered a number of locally made firearms and 1800 pieces of Yaba pills from their possession during the drive.
Confirming the incident, Sadarghat Police Station under Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) officer-in-charge (OC) Md Abdur Rahim said that the arrested individuals and seized items have been handed over to Sadarghat Police Station for further legal procedure.
Jahangir had been on the run for a long time to evade arrest. He and his associates were involved in various criminal activities, including murder, extortion, drug trafficking and illegal toll collection in Majirghat, Sadarghat and Madarbari areas of the city for an extended period, added the OC.
