A man has been arrested and sent to jail after his wife's body was discovered at Hajiganj Upazila in Chandpur district on Sunday.
Police detained the husband on suspicion of murder, and he was later remanded to custody by a court.
The arrested is Akash Sarker, 30, son of Ratan Sarker, a resident of Shibpur village under Matlab Uttar upazila.
According to police, the deceased, Ruma Rani Ghosh, 25, was recovered from a rented apartment at Makimabad area of Ward 5 of the upazila on Sunday night.
That same night, Ruma's family filed a case against her husband, Akash Sarker and his elder brother, Tapas Sarker. Police then arrested Akash Sarker and presented him before the court.
It is believed that Ruma Rani Ghosh died by suicide due to a family dispute, hanging herself with a scarf tied to a window grill. Her husband, Akash Sarker, confirmed the suicide to the police and journalists. However, Ruma's family members claim she was murdered after being beaten and tortured and that it was not a suicide.
Hajiganj Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) said that after preparing a post-mortem report and conducting an autopsy at Chandpur Sadar Hospital, Ruma Rani Ghosh's body was handed over to her family.
