Maulana Bhasani Science and Technology University (MBSTU) has suspended 19 leaders of its Bangladesh Chhatra League branch, including president and general secretary.
Four students have been permanently expelled, according to a notice issued by the university Registrar Dr. Moha. Tauhidul Islam on Sunday.
The action followed a complaint submitted by general students on August 17 last year, alleging retaliatory activities by certain members of the student organization. An investigative committee was formed, and based on its final report, the 47th University Disciplinary Board recommended expulsions and suspensions. The Regent Board approved the recommendations on August 27.
The four students permanently expelled are Manik Shil (ESRM Department, 2012-13 batch, President), Md. Humayun Kabir (Economics, 2016-17 batch, General Secretary), Shaon Ghosh (Economics), and Sadiq Iqbal (Physics). Raihan Ahmed Shanto (Physics, 2018-19 batch) received a five-semester suspension. Seven students were suspended for four semesters and another seven for three semesters, based on the severity of their offenses.
University Proctor Professor Imam Hossain said, “The students were initially temporarily suspended while the committee conducted a thorough investigation.
Punishments were determined according to the seriousness of their actions, ” he said.
