Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of renowned folk singer Farida Parveen, who died at a city hospital on Saturday night at the age of 71.

In a condolence message, Professor Yunus said that while Parveen performed Nazrul Sangeet, patriotic and other songs, she earned the title “Queen of Lalon Geeti” for her remarkable renditions of Lalon’s timeless songs over the last five decades.

“Through her voice, she carried Lalon’s philosophy and the essence of our culture to new heights,” Yunus noted, adding that despite many adversities, she never distanced herself from music. “Her passion inspired generations after generations.”

The Chief Adviser described the Ekushey Padak-winning artiste’s contributions as “ever memorable” and said her legacy will continue to inspire fresh creativity in the country’s cultural sphere.

He also prayed for the eternal peace of her soul and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
