Child drowns in Chandpur pond

A child died after drowning in a pond at Matlab Dakshin upazila of Chandpur district on Saturday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Umme Habiba, 7, daughter of Habib Mia of Naogaon village in Uttar union. Habiba was a Class I student.
According to the deceased’s family, Habiba had lunch with her mother around noon on Saturday and went out to play. When she did not return for a long time, family members began searching for her and discovered parts of her clothing floating in a nearby pond.

Later, she was immediately rescued and taken to Narayanpur Modern Private Hospital where the on-duty doctors declared her dead.

Naogaon Uttar Union Parishad (UP) chairman Kamruzzaman Molla confirmed the incident.
