BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed has urged political parties to preserve anti-fascist national unity despite ideological and strategic differences.

Speaking at a roundtable on “Future of Democratic Bangladesh: Thoughts and Expectations of the People” at Lakeshore Hotel at Gulshan in Dhaka on Saturday, he said, “Our state is now 54 years old. To ensure a stable and enduring democracy, national unity is essential.” The event was organized by the Bangladesh Enterprise Institute (BEI).

He highlighted the July mass uprising as an opportunity to strengthen unity, emphasizing that it should remain the country’s primary political force. “Even with differences on various issues, we must maintain anti-fascist unity and avoid internal discord,” he said.
Salahuddin also called for reforming political culture to match democratic ideals and public expectations. “Political parties will have differing views and strategies, but we must handle them with tolerance and mutual respect.

This is the essence of a democratic culture,” he added, noting that discussions at the National Consensus Commission have been conducted respectfully despite debates.
