Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained four individuals, including two women, as they attempted to illegally cross the border into India through the Goga border in Sharsha upazila, Jashore, early Friday morning.
The detainees have been identified as: Mithu Mollah, 32, a resident of Barnimaladhara village, Abhaynagar police station, Jashore, Mizanur Sardar, 45, of Patalia village, under the same police station, Shapla Khatun, of Baldanga village, Jashore Kotwali police station, Sumi Akter, 24, of Charkhola village, Nazirpur police station, Pirojpur
Acting on a tip-off, BGB personnel from the Goga camp took position near the border and intercepted the group as they attempted to cross without valid passports or visas.
During the operation, BGB also seized a motorcycle and four mobile phones from the detainees.
However, no suspected traffickers were arrested in connection with the incident.
Lt. Col. Mohammad Khurshid Anwar, commanding officer of BGB’s Khulna 21 Battalion, said that a case has been filed under the Illegal Entry Act. The detainees were later handed over to Sharsha Police Station for further legal action.
