Armed Forces' magistracy powers extended for 60 days

The government has extended the executive magistracy powers of Armed Forces officers by another 60 days to help maintain law and order nationwide.

A notification from the Ministry of Public Administration on Thursday (September 11) allows these officers to exercise special magistrate powers across the country from September 12 for two months.

The powers were first granted on September 30 following the student-public movement and have been extended in stages since then.

Under the notification, the officers can take action on various criminal offences as listed under Sections 64, 65, 83, 84, 86, 95(2), 100, 105, 107, 109, 110, 126, 127, 128, 130, 133, and 142 of the Criminal Procedure Code, 1898.
